Catawba County Social Services Department’s Senior Nutrition Services hosts Senior Morning Out

Catawba County residents age 60 and older can participate in Senior Morning Out, held Monday through Thursday mornings at five convenient locations. A hot, nutritious lunch is provided each day. The program is free to participants, who can choose the days they want to attend. Some locations provide bus transportation to the venue. Participants can enjoy a variety of activities in June, including a trip to the Farmer’s Market and cooking demonstrations.

The Newton venue (First Presbyterian Church, 701 N Main Ave in Newton) will feature June 3, Crafts: Canvas Crafts, June 5, Musical Performance by Cameron Matthews, June 10, Cooking Class: Egg Rolls by Thu, June 11, Hands-Only CPR by Melanie Sigmon of Catawba County EMS, June 12, Hickory Farmers Market Trip, June 18, Blood Pressure Monitoring and Chronic Pain by Liliana Adrian of CVHS, June 19, Musical Performance by Cody Newton, June 20, Felt Crafts by Erica Derr, June 26, Neurocognitive Disorders and Dementia Basics by Vaya Health, June 27, Musical Performance by Seniors on the Move. – The West Hickory site at the West Hickory Senior Center (400 17th St SW, Hickory) will host June 3, plant propagation tips with Cathy Potter, June 5, musical performance with Kim Daggerhart, June 6, Crafts: Card Making with Susie, June 10, Egg Rolls in a Bowl cooking class with Wes Cloer, June 11, Music Quiz with Steve Reap, June 12, musical performance with John Lindblom, June 13, Neurocognitive Disorders and Dementia Basics Part 1 with Vaya Health, June 17, Lighting Safety with Frank Valentine of Catawba County Emergency Services, June 19, Trip to the Hickory Farmers Market, June 25, Blood Pressure Monitoring and Falls and Prevention with Carolyn Thompson of CVHS. -The East Hickory venue (First United Methodist Church, 311 3rd Ave NE, Hickory) will host June 4, Cooking Class: How to Make a Charcuterie Board, June 5, Garden Club, June 6, Hands-Only CPR with Melanie Sigmon of Catawba County EMS, June 11, Neurocognitive Disorders and Dementia Basics with Vaya Health, June 12, Karaoke with Kim Dagerhardt, June 17, Game Day, June 18, Cooking Class: Berry-filled Chicken Salad, June 19, Trip to the Hickory Farmers Market, June 20, Photography by Cornelia Faddoul, June 27, Sing-along with Susie-Q by Jennifer Williams of the Hickory Public Library. Seniors Morning Out is run by Senior Nutrition Services of Catawba County Social Services and is seeking volunteers to help with the program Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. If you are interested, please call 828-695-5610. In addition to SMO, Senior Nutrition Services also runs Meals on Wheels and related programs in the county.
