Trinity matrix He possessed the power of the Force, which was in fact what led to the creation of Jedi Master Indara. Acolyte According to series creator Leslye Headland, Trinity is an awesome character, capable of gravity-defying moves in combat, so the obvious choice was to cast Trinity herself, Carrie-Anne Moss. As it turns out, Moss has a lot to learn by stepping into Trinity’s world. Star Wars The galaxy too.
Empire Sit down with Moss to learn about Master Indara, Jedi spirituality, the importance of a successful lightsaber battle, Star Wars and matrixHow difficult it is to fight in Jedi robes.
EMPIRE: What was your reaction when you got the call? Star Wars?
Carrie-Anne Moss: Oh, that was a very exciting phone call. Actually, my husband and kids Star Wars It’s a show. Everybody was watching it, and I was carrying clothes upstairs to put in people’s closets, and my husband was like, “You should be on one of these shows!” And literally two weeks later, I got a call.
no way!
I was like, “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Leslie pitched it to me. I was watching her show. Russian DollKnowing her artistic talent, I was blown away by her vision and execution. I thought, “I’m going to give it my all. When do I start?” Star Wars On my resume. On my personal resume. I don’t mean on a paper resume. In my soul and in my spirit, playing this Jedi Master and being trained in battle. [an] It was an amazing experience, and I felt like I had awakened a part of me that I had forgotten how much I love action. Love I personally love being challenged. It’s a physical challenge, but it’s also a mental challenge. Exercising your mind helps you enter the world of the Jedi Master.
The training period is 3-4 weeks, which is not that long. In the first two weeks, I was like, “I’ll never be able to do this.” But then all of a sudden, I started to get the hang of it, and I was on set. Filming is much easier than training. The adrenaline is there, the costume is there, the world is there. I was really happy to be able to do it, I loved it, and I wanted to do it well. “Take it again! Take it again!”

What did Leslie pitch to you? What attracted you to her?
When she described the story in the fight, it really struck me. Because every good fight has a story. I love understanding the dynamics of a fight. When she described it to me, I thought, “I want to be her. I want to be in her shoes and discover that.” [Leslye]She is very creative and can express her vision very clearly. Sometimes you get the sense that when you talk to someone who has created a story, you know it right away. I’ve felt that way a few times in my career, when I’ve done some big things. Memento, matrixI was talking to a film director and I was like, “Oh, they completely They understand that very well, so I trust them. And it doesn’t always feel that way. It’s actually quite rare. It’s a pleasure to sign and be a part of it.
What can you tell us about Jedi Master Indara?
We meet her in a mysterious way, and through a very intense fight at first. She is very strong, both physically and mentally. I love a lot about her. But [particularly] Containment. I love this word. wordsAnd even just saying the word “contained” tells you what it took to play her. There’s a lot of fighting to keep her here. [gestures to her centre]and also to have power. When you gain power through restraint, that’s what I’m good at. I think this is one of the most restrained characters I’ve ever played.
“It was so much fun I can’t remember loving doing something so much in a long time.”
That’s Jedi centrality, isn’t it? Star Wars What would you do if you got the role?
I have always had a deep respect for Star Wars As a kid, I watched movies in the cinema. I didn’t watch every show. I don’t watch a lot of TV. But my respect for [for Star Wars] is extraordinary in that respect. [Pablo Hidalgo] He knows everything about the universe. I love reading spiritual books, dark and light, but the whole metaphysical journey I’ve been on since I was 25 and into adulthood. Star WarsI got into this world because of my own interest in metaphysics and spirituality, and to see that reflected in this story – the hero’s journey, it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it – it was very inspiring.
At this stage in my career, I love being surprised. I love being surprised by the depth of the world. The depth of being a Jedi. The rules. And bringing myself into it. idea “How do I, Carrie Ann, play a Jedi and put my heart, mind, soul and all of my experiences into this character? I never thought I’d be more prepared for this role because of my own personal exploration.”
We have a lot in common Star Wars and matrix Philosophical and spiritual elements, the fight against fascism. Matrix Resurrections did Acolyte Did you talk about anything? Did you have anything in common?
We didn’t do the crossover. I think it was two years later. We finished filming it a year ago. [The Acolyte] It took three months including training, so that’s three months of immersion. [Resurrections] As I calmed down, I was certain I was seeing it in the rearview mirror.

just a little Star Wars Are you interested in the world of martial arts? Has playing Trinity again recently helped you? revival?
Well, I think I’ve learned how to fight my whole life. But this is a whole different story, because I was alone. I was always [The Matrix] There’s a certain energy that comes with being with your co-stars. [On The Acolyte] I was alone with my team and it was great because it ignited and gave me access to my inner self. I thought, “I can do this. all” I loved it more than I can remember loving doing anything in a long time. “I’m strong. I can learn this. I can show up and I can find that inhibition. ” In martial arts, it’s very hard not to frown. You have to constantly bring it back almost effortlessly. It looks effortless, but it’s not. [laughs] That was fun to play with. I told Leslie, “I don’t want to look too funny. I want to look decent.”
What’s it like fighting in Jedi robes? Is it difficult?
It was difficult. My physical disability was actually due to the costume. It’s really important to practice in the costume. The costume is heavy. There were bones in the bodice. The costume was actually the most painful. Certain parts of my back, my shoulders, I couldn’t move at all. It took me a long time to recover from that part. The costume expresses the character. It certainly gives you an image, but it was hard to actually let go during the fight. You get in the zone between the action and the cut. It wasn’t until I got back to the hotel room that I thought, “Oh. ah“It really hurts.”
Tell us about your lightsaber. Is there any part of the design that you are particularly fond of?
Lightsabers are Really It was important to me. I felt like a little kid who just wanted to do it. So Yes. I almost cried. I don’t usually feel that way. I had to tell everyone, “I want to have this. So “I have to fail first.” The weight on my shoulders and in my heart of having to perform the lightsaber well was something I hadn’t anticipated. “If this doesn’t work, I’ll really cry.” So I practiced many times with a broom in the hotel. I think we ended up having to reshoot. I told Leslie, “Let’s just keep shooting. Have How to Become Great promise He told me he would continue to do so. [if it isn’t right]It’s a lot harder than it looks, and making it look effortless, like you could do it in your sleep, was the most stressful moment of the entire job.
“Acolyte” will be available on Disney+ from June 5th.
