Carol Burnett hands her bartenders an instruction card detailing the “exact” recipe for the Cosmopolitan.
The 91-year-old veteran actress, whose work spanned stage, musical theatre, television and film, was honored by having her hands and feet slammed into the ground outside the famed TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California on Thursday (24/06/20), and Laura Dern, one of the many star guests in attendance, revealed her habit of drinking cocktails during memorial services.
Wild at Heart actress Laura, 57, told People magazine about her acting hero: “She has a great card that she gives to the bartender at the Carol Burnett Cosmopolitan.
“And her recipes are right there.”
Added another guest, TV and film producer Jamie Lemons: “Carol hands these out to all the bartenders and it has her own little portrait on it.”
The couple also said they were inspired by Carol’s signature drink instructions and told her they would be honoring her at the TCL Theatre.
They created similar cards but replaced Carol’s description of her ideal cosmopolitan with an image of the star standing in front of a famous Hollywood attraction.
Laura spoke about how she broke the news of her tribute to Carol: “Jamie and I were together, one online and one in person, and I said, ‘I made this card because I’m so inspired by you as a producer and everything you’ve achieved. I also loved the card you made for the bartender so I wanted to give you one of our new cards.’
“She picked it up and said, ‘What?’ It was a card with her portrait on it. So we told her.”
Jamie added that Carol was so surprised by the honour, less than two weeks after receiving her certificate, that she was “moved to tears”.
Also attending Carol’s TCL ceremony was 98-year-old Dick Van Dyke, who co-starred with her on “The Carol Burnett Show,” which aired for 11 seasons from 1967 to 1978.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Bob Mackie, Allison Janney, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, Lisa Ann Walter, Bob Odenkirk and Maya Rudolph, and Jimmy Kimmel spoke during the ceremony.
The 56-year-old talk show host later wrote on social media: “Thank you to Carol Burnett for giving me the honor of honoring you with a well-deserved and long-awaited handprint and footprint ceremony in Hollywood this morning.”
