As consumer interest in GLP-1 weight loss drugs increases, The Vitamin Shoppe is getting into the telemedicine game with Whole Health Rx

Vitamin Shoppe is a telemedicine service that connects consumers with licensed health care providers who provide access to nutritional supplements and GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic and Munjaro, as well as combined versions of the active ingredients semaglutide and tirzepatide. Start “Whole Health Rx”. With Zep Bound.

The move positions Whole Health Rx to compete with other similar platforms such as Noom Med, Henry Meds, Eden, and Sequence. Although the new platform will initially focus on weight management, Whole Health Rx plans to expand into other health areas.

“The Vitamin Shoppe Whole Health Rx is a meaningful evolution in our mission to consistently and comprehensively support our customers’ health needs,” said Lee Wright, CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe. I spoke. “A pioneer in the health field since 1977, The Vitamin Shoppe offers a truly holistic approach to weight loss, combining proven pharmaceutical interventions with unparalleled expertise in nutritional support and total body health. We are in a unique position to deliver.”

Mr. Wright was appointed CEO last year after The Vitamin Shoppe’s parent company, Franchise Group, announced its intention to take the company private through a $2.6 billion management buyout.

Whole Health Rx consumers begin with an online questionnaire about their medical history and health goals. If your prescription is approved, your order will be placed through Whole Health Rx’s pharmacy partner and delivered by mail. Patients can also access online resources through the platform to support decision-making in their health journey.

Whole Health Rx users will also be able to purchase supplements aimed at supporting weight loss, including protein, multivitamins, probiotics and fiber, both in-store and online at The Vitamin Shoppe.

“Data shows that a significant proportion of the population is not meeting their daily requirements for important nutrients such as vitamins C, D and magnesium,” said The Vitamin Shoppe’s director of science and regulation. Brian Tanzer said. “This problem will be further exacerbated by the use of GLP-1 drugs that reduce overall food intake. Whole Health Rx is designed to help individuals manage weight loss in a healthy and effective way. It is a multi-faceted service that ensures access to nutritional information and products.”

Monthly drug subscriptions start at an introductory price of $219 (regular price $269) and no insurance is required.

Brands and retailers embrace wellness

Wellness products, especially those in the supplements, vitamins, and functional food and beverage sectors, have been a major focus for retailers over the past year, and for good reason.

Consumers are actively taking vitamins and supplements. They were the second most popular consumer packaged goods category purchased during Amazon’s October Prime Day in both 2023 and 2022.

Target believes 2024 is the year of wellness and has brought more than 1,000 wellness products to its shelves, including items exclusive to retail brands.

The brand is clearly targeting Gen Z, keenly aware that young people are willing to forego other luxuries in order to spend more money on wellness products.

Ghost, a supplement and sports nutrition brand, offers colorful, youth-centric packaging with flavors aimed at younger consumers such as Chips Ahoy!, Oreo, Nutter Butter, and Sour Patch Kids. The company also sells products to gamers that contain nootropics and other ingredients to boost focus and energy.

Introducing weight loss foods and supplements

There is also an emerging market of non-injectable weight loss options and products aimed at supporting people transitioning from Ozempic and other semaglutide products.

GNC has launched Total Lean GlucaTrim, an over-the-counter supplement that claims to support healthy blood sugar and insulin levels. This caffeine-free product contains berberine, a compound extracted from various plants and called “nature’s ozempic.”

Supergut, a prebiotic superfood brand, recently partnered with GNC to include the popular Gut Health GLP-1 Booster, a high-fiber prebiotic mix. Founded in 2022, the company aims to use fiber to naturally trigger the release of the GLP-1 hormone, which sends signals to the brain that slow digestion and elicit feelings of fullness.
