Calista Flockhart says sudden ‘Ally McBeal’ fame has affected her mental health

Calista Flockhart is Ally McBealShe said she was reluctant to leave her home because of the paparazzi attention.

The actor rose to fame as the lead in the ’90s comedy-drama series about a Boston-based lawyer juggling his professional life with his tumultuous romantic and personal life.

It aired for five seasons from 1997 to 2002. Ally McBeal The series received early critical acclaim and won two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series.

In a recent episode The Hollywood Reporterof Awards Speaking on the podcast “The 1000,” Flockhart, 59, said that while she saw the show’s positive reception as a triumph, the pressure on her personal life had been an unfortunate by-product.

“I realized this was really amazing. People were watching it and talking about it and discussing it. It was really amazing,” she said of the show’s early run. “That was the goal, right?”

However, the show’s success also brought increased public scrutiny of her personal life, leaving Flockhart feeling like she had a loss of privacy.

“This might sound like a complaint, but the paparazzi really did follow me everywhere I went,” the actor said. “To be honest, I don’t think I ever really adapted to the paparazzi.”

After adopting her son Liam in 2001, Flockhart began dating Hollywood actor Harrison Ford in 2002 and married him in 2010. With the ever-increasing paparazzi attention on her, Flockhart said she decided to spend more time at home to look after her mental health.

“I decided the only thing I could do was stay home and not leave my apartment,” Flockhart said.

“I stopped leaving the house. I stopped going out, I was isolating myself,” she continued. “I was… I don’t want to say I was depressed, but it was hard. It was hard.”

Before landing the TV role, Flockhart was appearing in plays in New York. In a podcast released on Monday (June 17), she said: Feud: Capote vs. the Swans The star wondered what would have happened to her career if she hadn’t won the role of Ally.

“I probably would have stayed in New York and done a lot of theater, hopefully started a family, and eventually found a TV show or a movie or something,” she said. “So, I think I would have continued acting.”
