FRESNO – Julia Brown of A Simpler Time in Fresno said herbs and nature have always been a passion for her.

“As a Certified Master Herbalist, my desire is to learn about the many benefits of herbs and to unlock their joy and power. I believe that the Lord has placed all things on this good earth for a purpose. I firmly believe that herbs are one of them,” said Brown, who has practiced herbalism for more than 35 years, but is also a writer.

Brown is from West Lafayette. She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1985 and married her high school sweetheart in 1989.

I’m a local girl from West Lafayette, Ohio. She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1985, married her high school sweetheart in 1989, and will celebrate her 35th anniversary next August. We have two adult children and three beautiful grandchildren.

“I owe much of my love for plants and herb gardens to my grandmother Edna, my father’s mother. When I was little I spent a lot of time with her in the summers. She taught me how to grow plants, It taught me a lot about canning, preserving.” Harvesting and settling.

“My love for the kitchen and utilizing the bounty of the garden comes from both my Grandma Edna and my mother Mickey,” she continued. “They were both great cooks. They cooked with what they had on hand, without measuring anything, with instinct and love.”

A Simpler Time was founded in 2014 as an herbal learning center and the herb cabin was completed in 2018.

“I host events and herbal classes on the plane as often as I can, but I also have a full-time job of 40 hours a week outside of the home.”

“‘A Simpler Thyme in the Kitchen’ is my first published book. I am working on a novel that honors my mother’s legacy. This work has been in progress for several years and I hope to have it completed by the end of the year. “I think about it. I’ve always loved writing and I’ve always had a talent for storytelling, but some might call it a talent for oratory,” she said. “I love sharing old stories of herbs and plants, how they got their names and what they symbolize. My cookbook has some folklore stories of herbs. But my cookbook is based on cherished family collections spanning decades. Some recipes date back at least 150 years. Times were simpler and people relied on the resources they had and Cooked from farm to table using ingredients grown in

A Simpler Thyme is located at 51953 Township Road 186 in Fresno, but Brown also hosts events in Tuscarawas County.

Brown’s plans include a book signing at Woolly Pig Brewery on Sunday at 5 p.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and book release at the cabin on April 17 at 2 p.m.
