Two years ago, Bronson Pinchot was trying to help his 94-year-old mother to her feet after she had fallen to the floor when he had a sudden epiphany.
“She still had her sanity,” he told Page Six in an exclusive interview.
“But she was on the second floor and I couldn’t wake her up and she didn’t have the core strength to help me.”
“It was difficult because we had to call paramedics.”
The 65-year-old former “Perfect Strangers” star said the shocking incident made him realise he never wanted to be in that position when he got older, so he began working out and strengthening his core.
However, this is not the first time the actor has embarked on a fitness journey.
In March 2021, the “Risky Business” star told Page Six exclusively that she was horrified when she saw photos of herself from the 2017 reboot of “Battle of the Network Stars,” and that she lost a whopping 60 pounds toward the end of 2020.
However, as his mother’s health deteriorated in 2022, he put the weight back on “with interest.”
After the “Sabrina: Dark Adventures” actor’s mother passed away, he began a new health journey in 2023 with the help of Instagram personal trainer Amir Barbour.
Mr. Barber, a chemical and biomolecular engineer by day, was based in Kansas City, so Mr. Pinchot became a de facto client.
“I thought he had great advice and was very approachable,” Pinchot said of discovering Barbour on Instagram. “He’s unique. He’s not bossy.”
Pinchot said he and Barber had a “90-minute FaceTime session.” [call] Every week. Plus, I can text him any time of the day or night.”
Barber also set up cameras so the trainer could see every angle while the actors worked out, “and he’d say, ‘No, act like this, pretend your elbows are in your back pockets,’ and he’d teach us all these really helpful tips.”
The 26-year-old trainer told Page Six that Pinchot has progressed from lifting 50- to 60-pound dumbbells to 10 sets of 100-pound dumbbells, “which is something most gym-goers my age can’t do, let alone someone in their 60s.”
Pinchot said the training not only got him physically fit, it also improved his mental health.
“Part of me was like, ‘Wow, I want to do a TV show like that.’ [or] “The feeling of ‘I should have that’ has actually gone down to almost nothing,” he reveals, “because [my fitness journey] This is very exciting.”
Pinchot adds that feelings of overthinking and self-pity can be stave off with intense training sessions.
Meanwhile, the veteran actor’s career is going well.
He will soon appear in “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and will reprise his role as art assistant Serge from the 1984 comedy “Beverly Hills Cop.”
Despite it being 40 years since the original film was released, Pinchot said filming the movie was effortless and felt like no time had passed.
“There’s absolutely no rust or cobwebs,” he says happily.
