Most experienced cannabis consumers generally agree that the “entourage effect,” the power of terpenes combined with cannabinoids, produces more powerful effects. But how can we express this in quantitative terms?

One such company set out to collect data to support this idea. Kinloch Wellness, a manufacturer of plant-based health products, partners with neurotechnology pioneer Zentrella to leverage AI to analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) data in pursuit of a vast database of cannabis effects. The results of a groundbreaking observational study were published.

What they discovered was that terpene-infused CBD products were several times more effective than CBD-only products.

The crossover study was conducted in Zentrella’s lab with 15 participants. They compared certain products that were infused with both CBD and some terpenes to a leading CBD-only product for comparison. Participants ingested one unit of each product containing 50mg of CBD and underwent an EEG test.

This technology has been refined for over 50 years. Previous EEG-related studies have shown that EEG has the potential to capture changes in EEG characteristics caused by cannabinoids. And the novelty of this study depends not only on the use of EEG technology, but also on how the EEG analysis was performed, the researchers say.

“We kept hearing from consumers that only CBD products with terpenes were effective. We wanted to quantify that,” Dwayne Stewart, CEO of Kinloch Wellness, said in a phone interview. He spoke at “So we worked with Zentrella in Toronto, which uses an electroencephalograph attached to the subject’s head,” Stewart continues. “This allows us to measure across many different types of products, and we’ve done this thousands of times, and we have AI-based algorithms that can understand what’s going on.”

This will allow the team to actually measure the impact of their products, allowing scientists to explore what happens in the brain beyond just the subjective responses that constitute what is anecdotally understood as the “entourage effect.” He explained that it can show in a measurable way what is happening. The primary purpose of this study was to objectively measure the effectiveness of Kinloch’s Serene™ CBD Green Apple Gummy Drop in enhancing a state of relaxation in consumers. Kinloch’s Serene products are broad-spectrum, THC-free drops, Stewart says.

Data-driven products go beyond anecdotal evidence

So what did Zentrella’s lab discover? Products fortified with both CBD and terpenes are Many times More effective than controls containing only CBD. This study revealed his three important discoveries:

  • For female study participants—Kinloch Serene™ CBD Green Apple Gummy Drops with CBD and Terpenes. 5 times More effective in relaxing groups than CBD-only comparison products.
  • On average across all participants, Kinloch Serene™ CBD Green Apple Gummy Drop 3 times It was more effective in relaxing the study group than a comparable CBD-only product.
  • The results of this study show that two products can produce very different effects despite containing the same amount of the same cannabinoids (compare and contrast Kinloch Serene™ CBD Green Apple Gummy Drop product).

This shows why we need to focus more on terpenes beyond a single product. “This study highlights the potential role of terpenes and their effects alongside cannabinoids such as CBD. Although more robust testing is needed, these findings provide guidance on the potential effects of cannabis products. ” said Hybrid Farm in a statement. “This research will help further empower consumers and facilitate informed decision-making. It is an important stepping stone to understanding the complexities of cannabinoid science.”

Serene CBD Gummy Drops are formulated with beta-caryophyllene and three other terps (linalool, beta-pinene, and alpha-phellandrene). Terpenes are directly involved in the active cannabinoids. For example, β-caryophyllene binds to her CB2 receptor and acts as a full agonist. But where does Kinloch Wellness source its terpenes? “They come from cannabis-derived terpenes and single-source terpenes,” Stewart says. “From Natural Resources. All of our terpenes are naturally based and derived from plant materials.”

The findings specifically show that there is a measurable way to demonstrate whether a product is effective for relaxation.

“If you’re targeting a product for a specific effect, why not incorporate other parts of the plant that have positive effects,” says Stewart. “And that’s what we’ve done with our product profiles. And the way we demonstrate that is through data-driven companies like ours.”
