Last year, the High Court issued an interim order banning Patanjali from selling camphor-based products. Following this, Mangalam Organics filed a lawsuit against Patanjali for violating the court order. The court ordered Patanjali to pay Rs 40 million within two weeks. Earlier this month, the court also ordered Patanjali to pay Rs 500,000, taking the total penalty to Rs 4.5 crore.
In August 2023, the Bombay High Court issued an interim injunction restraining Patanjali from selling and advertising its camphor-based products, on a petition by Mangalam Organics. Mangalam had accused Patanjali of copyright infringement and subsequently filed a petition alleging that despite the interim order, Patanjali has continued to sell its camphor-based products.
During the hearing, Patanjali revealed that more than Rs 49.57 million worth of goods had been sold by June 24. Patanjali director Rajneesh Mishra offered an unconditional apology in court in June, but the court said Mishra could have faced imprisonment. However, the court chose not to impose such a penalty to avoid endangering his personal liberty. The court warned that if the Rs 40 million was not deposited within two weeks, Mishra would be taken into custody immediately.
