Not only will the Recipe Challenge return to the Pierce County Fair in 2024, but the Quilting Challenge will also be a new addition. These challenges will provide friendly competition between participants in the open class while also encouraging participants to get out of their comfort zone and try new things and techniques.
Quilting Challenge
This year, we’re partnering with Pierce County’s Meals on Wheels program to host the Quilt Placemat Challenge. This is a great opportunity to use your sewing skills and creativity to create unique placemats and participate in the challenge. After the fair, all creations will be donated to Meals on Wheels to be delivered to local seniors, bringing smiles and joy to their faces.
The theme for 2024 is Winter and Christmas. Get out your seasonal prints and create the best placemats in the county. If it takes a few tries to perfect your entry, we will also be accepting donations of additional placemats during the entry check-in and the week of the fair. Our goal this year is 130 quilted placemats to donate to Meals on Wheels of Pierce County.
Recipe Challenge
The recipe challenge is back this year with a new recipe, “It Can’t Be a Beet Cake,” in which all entries will be submitted using the same recipe provided by the Pierce County Fair Office by July 15. This year’s recipe involves hiding beets inside a delicious chocolate cake as a treat for your family to encourage them to eat more vegetables.
More information on these challenges can be found on the fair’s website at https://www.co.pierce.wi.us/departments/fair/index.php or in the premium book available at the Pierce County Fair office. Information on the Quilted Placemat Challenge is on page 114 of the premium book and information on the Recipe Challenge is on page 109.
