Dr. Premchankar will share a list of remedies and ancient herbs that can boost eye health.
1. Triphala: The combination of the three fruits is called Triphala, an ancient remedy known for improving eyesight. Triphala contains antioxidants that help rejuvenate eye tissue and protect the eyes from oxidative stress. This herb is excellent for treating a variety of eye problems and can be taken orally or used as an eye wash.
2. Balanced diet: A balanced diet rich in nutrients like proteins and vitamins A, E, C and B helps in maintaining good eyesight. Including ghee, honey, barley, wheat, Shastika Shari (stale rice), Draksha, Dadima and green dram in your diet is essential for maintaining good eye health.
3. Anjana and Nasya: The eyes are often susceptible to disease, and regular application of anjana (eye drops) and nasya (nasal injections) are recommended to protect the eyes and remove excess kapha.
4. Foot massage: Use of foot protection and Padabhyanga (foot massage with oil) are recommended to preserve vision.
5. Don’t suppress your urges Forcibly inducing or suppressing the urge is not recommended as it may cause serious eye damage.
6. Trataka: Staring into a burning ghee lamp is called ‘trataka’ and is a known Ayurvedic eye exercise. Sit in a dark room for 10 minutes a day and stare into the flame of a ghee lamp positioned at a 30-degree angle. This improves your eyesight and eye strength.
