Ayurveda’s focus on prevention, balance and personalized care aligns seamlessly with the global need for a sustainable and equitable health system, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said here on Friday.
The 5th Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF 2023) inaugurated at the Greenfield International Stadium in Kariyavattom, highlighting Ayurveda as “radically cutting edge in the pursuit of physical and mental health. We can make a big contribution,” Dhankar said. The five-day event is organized by the Center for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) with support from the Union Ministry of Ayush, state governments and various Ayurvedic associations.
lifestyle-related diseases
Considering the prevalence of non-communicable and lifestyle-related diseases, the importance of solutions offered by Ayurveda has increased. The Ayurvedic philosophy of “May all be happy, may all be free from disease” is embedded in India’s civilizational ethos, the Vice President said. He noted that societies across the world face complex health-related challenges and said India, with its rich Ayurvedic heritage, should take the lead in tackling these challenges.
The country’s focus on yoga and the AYUSH healthcare system is proving to be a game-changer in promoting health and well-being. He pointed out that currently around 40,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are actively contributing to the dynamic AYUSH sector.
Prime Minister’s message
GAF 2023, with the theme “New Challenges in Healthcare and the Resurrection of Ayurveda,” will be a “beacon of hope” for the world grappling with health challenges, Dhankar said.
At the inauguration ceremony, a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was read out. Mr. Modi expressed his hope that GAF 2023 will lead to new opportunities in global cooperation in medicine and research. An integral part of Indian tradition and ethos, Ayurveda promotes physical strength and spiritual health and is more than just a medical system, it is a whole way of life and a comprehensive guide to holistic health. system, the Prime Minister said.
Mr. Modi said the people of Kerala continue to maintain a healthy relationship with Ayurveda and traditional medicine. Mr. Modi said the idea of a universal health vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’ is rooted in the ancient Indian doctrine ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
The Vice President awarded the Brihatrayee Ratna Award instituted by Arya Vaidya Pharmacy Coimbatore to Mr. Sadanand Prabhakar Sardeshmukh. V. Muraleedharan, Minister of External Affairs. Transport Minister Antony Raju. Shashi Tharoor MP. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush; GG Gangadharan, GAF current chairman. and GAF Secretary General C. Sureshkumar were present.
