A pet health clinic is reopening in the Poconos after being closed for more than a year.
STROUD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Animals like Ranger Rick come to AWSOM Animal Shelter in Stroud Township with a variety of medical needs.
“He had glaucoma and had to have his eye removed because of it. He was a very good kid.”
But before they can find their forever families, they need to receive medical care at the facility’s on-site health center, which closed last spring after personnel issues caused it to cease operations.
“We didn’t want that to happen, and the community didn’t want that to happen, but since we announced we were reopening we’ve had an overwhelming amount of support,” said operations manager Brandon Overbeck.
Overbeck says staff have had to outsource all of their veterinary needs during the closure.
“We had staff running the animals around. Because we weren’t doing it in-house, obviously the monetary value went up and it was costing us more money,” Overbeck said.
The center can also provide spay/neuter services for cats and dogs by appointment, as well as vaccinations, microchipping and other non-emergency services.
When clients return to the center with their pets, they will notice some changes.
“We’ve refinished all the floors, we’ve repainted the walls, we’ve upgraded some of the surgical equipment and supplies, so it’s much safer and more comfortable for our staff and patients,” Overbeck explained.
The reopening of the Wellness Center will not only help keep people’s pets happy and healthy, but it will also help support the animals at AWSOM.
“At the end of the day, everyone who comes here gets a discount on the service fee, but all of that money goes towards helping the animals in Monroe County that we care for,” Overbeck said.
AWSOM Wellness Centre is currently accepting bookings ahead of its July 1st reopening.
