IntroductionPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine-metabolic disorder in reproductive-aged women, affecting up to 15% of reproductive age women (1), and has become the leading cause of menstrual disorders and anovulatory infertility in women (2, 3). The major clinical manifestations of PCOS consist of ovulatory dysfunction, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovaries, along with insulin resistance, obesity, and metabolic dysfunction (4, 5). Introduction In recent years, the arena of spirituality has garnered renewed interest in wide-ranging disciplines, including health (e.g., Hill and Pargament, 2003), education (e.g., Miller, 2009), clinical psychology and psychotherapy (e.g., Miller and Kelley, 2006), personality (e.g., Emmons, 1999), family studies (e.g., Tarakeshwar et al., 2001), and developmental psychology (e.g., Benson et al., 2003). Moreover, research in positive psychology and thriving consistently indicates that spirituality is associated with psychological adjustment and well-being (e.g., King and Benson, 2006; Johnson, 2008; Saroglou et al., 2008). Recently, major theoretical reviews in developmental psychology have emphasized the prominent role that spirituality plays in character…

The challenge of dealing with an ever-increasing population has been dealt with largely…
Introduction Recent years have seen a burgeoning interest in mindfulness-based approaches, primarily driven by growing evidence of their beneficial effects on physical and mental well-being. In parallel to research evaluating the effectiveness of these approaches, a second line of investigation concentrates on unraveling the psychological and neurophysiological processes involved. A more precise understanding of these processes will facilitate the refinement of mindfulness-based interventions and will allow the development and fine-tuning of programs that account for specific psychological or physiological conditions and cater for individual circumstances and predispositions. Several theoretical propositions have already been made. For example, neurobiological processes of wanting…
Introduction Mixed urinary incontinence (MUI), as a type of urinary incontinence (UI), presents with involuntary leakage associated with urgency and also with exertion, effort, sneezing or coughing, which is more bothersome than either stress or urgency incontinence alone (1–3). MUI was predicted to affect more women than men (4) and its epidemiological data varied widely. For example, prevalence rates of MUI among women were 0.7–26.6, 15.7–36.6, 9–18, and 40% in China, United State, Egypt, and England, respectively (5–8). Pathophysiological mechanisms of MUI are unclear (9). It might be a combination of the mechanisms of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and urgency…

The first time I was bullied was at a religious school. As I sat quietly cross-legged in the back of the classroom, uninterested in the Arabic text on my lap, I noticed two girls glancing at me and timidly whispering something to each other. I did. The other students had someone else sitting there. All the other students seemed to understand the scriptures better than I did. I had been attending this class for months, and although I had managed to make some superficial progress, I became more and more skeptical as each religious history class progressed. Even with my…
