An Australian-made pancake mix advertised as vegan-friendly and “made by nutritionists” has been recalled after it was found to contain milk.

Food Standards Australia on Friday issued a recall notice for Elixinol Wellness’ Mt Elephant brand ‘Buttermilk’ mix due to ‘undeclared allergens’.

Food authorities have advised anyone who has purchased Byron Bay pancake mix and has a milk allergy or intolerance to “not consume this product”.

The Australian Food Standards Agency on Friday issued a recall notice for Elixinol Wellness’ Mt Elephant brand Buttermilk mix due to “undeclared allergens”.

“Consumers must return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the notice states.

“Consumers who are concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

The 230g pancake mix was sold in Coles and Woolworths stores nationwide and online.

Affected packages are marked with expiration dates of October 9, 2024, October 10, and December 19, 2024.

Affected packages are marked with expiration dates of October 9, 2024, October 10, and December 19, 2024.

Products sold with a best-before date of March 19, 2025 are also affected by the recall notice.

Elixinol Wellness primarily sells hemp-derived and “other plant-based nutritional supplements, skin care, and foods,” according to the company’s website.

The packaging for the “Buttermilk” pancakes claims that the product is gluten-free, preservative-free, and vegan.

Although milk is gluten-free, it is not a product that is generally considered vegan-friendly.
