Laguna Gloria
Unlike art school classes, this retreat does not require a museum membership. The Art & Wellness Retreat is designed for those looking to dip their toes in the water before attending a weekend workshop or eight-week course.
Contemporary Austin will partner with Practice Yoga Austin to offer its first Art and Wellness Retreat to kick off the Art School’s summer semester. From 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th or Sunday, May 19th (or both, if you choose), art, yoga, nature, and mind on the majestic, meditative grounds of Laguna Gloria. Spend the day immersed in fullness. The day begins with coffee, a welcome tote, group orientation, and a sound bath ceremony inspired by Guadalupe Maravilla’s Mariposa Lilampago, currently on display at the Sculpture Park. Continue your day by learning pottery, painting, or watercolor from an experienced educator, participating in a tailored yoga session, and enjoying lunch overlooking Lake Austin provided by Spread & Company. Tuition for the retreat is $260 (includes lunch and supplies; yoga mats provided, but participants must bring their own).
For those not yet familiar, the Art & Wellness Retreat is a great introduction to the Laguna Gloria location, home of The Contemporary Austin and Art School. Our 14 acres of natural beauty in West Austin provides a natural setting for artistic creation. The Art School’s studios have direct access to the outdoors, so students are encouraged to explore the grounds while working on class projects. The goal of art school is to foster creativity, develop visual awareness, and improve technical skills in your chosen medium. Small class sizes increase student interaction with qualified and talented faculty.
Summer term is just around the corner, with seven weeks of classes starting the week of May 18th and July 6th, but there’s still time to register. If you can’t attend classes for the entire semester, check out his 1- or 2-day workshops held every weekend. Visit The Contemporary Austin website for available courses. Classes are offered for beginners to advanced levels, ages 4 to adults, using art materials such as painting, drawing, ceramics, metalwork, photography, Photoshop, collage, mosaic, watercolor, pastels, jewelry, printmaking, and more. Masu. Fall registration will begin in August. Stay tuned for more details.
