An employee returns to the office to see the “charging room” and takes a peek inside. In this case, expectations definitely do not match reality.
TikTok user Liz (@lizzyfrat5) recently posted a slideshow of her “personal ‘charging room’ in my office.” There is a sign on the door stating that you must reserve your room in advance and empty all trash and personal items upon leaving. . A second sign details the “Wellness Room Policy.”
The second slide shows the contents of the closet-sized room, including a small armchair, ottoman, and rug. The room is dark except for the light from outside where Liz is filming. In the caption, she wrote: “When I got back to the office I was told #corporatelife.” The music that accompanies the slides is: Amityville Horror.
The video had more than 354,000 views as of the weekend. In the comments, users agreed that it was a creepy setting.
One user asked, “Is the health of the room with us?”
Another said, “This room makes me more unstable.”
Another user agreed: “That would really push the envelope.”
One user likened it to a “safe injection site.” One person said, “It looks like the door might be locked from the outside.”
One person joked, “Rent in New York is $2,500 a month.”
Office wellness rooms are becoming increasingly common
Returning to the office after working from home during the pandemic has been an adjustment for many workers. It’s no wonder, then, that some employers are considering strategies like “charging rooms” to make the working environment a little more flexible for those working long hours.
However, this trend actually predates the pandemic. In 2018, Inc. called it the next big workplace trend. “These rooms are where employees can take a few minutes of downtime to focus, relax, stretch, take a nap, or even meditate,” the article states. . “The idea is to relax and escape the stress of work until the brain resets. Once the battery is fully charged, employees are ready to tackle even the most difficult projects with renewed energy. ”
It is important to note that many of the room designs proposed in this article are much more luxurious than those offered by Liz’s employer.
