Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday described former President APJ Abdul Kalam as someone who had a deep understanding of the ethos of Indian culture and mind. “Dr Kalam seamlessly bridged the realms of advanced technology and lofty spirituality,” Governor Khan said.
The Governor delivered the 9th APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture on the theme “Dr Kalam as a devotee of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage” at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).
Khan said Dr Kalam believes that the “marriage of science and spirituality” shows the way forward for humanity.
Dr Kalam’s methodology for developing an enlightened society — education with values, transformation of religion into spirituality and economic development for social transformation — demonstrates his deep understanding of India’s cultural and spiritual ethos. The solutions he proposed are derived from ancient Indian wisdom, Khan said.
During his interaction with the students, Khan emphasised the need to harness scientific research and new ideas to improve people’s lives.
Among those in attendance were S. Unnikrishnan Nair, director of IIST and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ES Padmakumar, director of ISRO’s Inertial Systems Unit, and V. Narayanan, director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre.
