With the final phase of campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections coming to an end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari On Thursday.
Before arriving at the memorial, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the Bhagavathi Amman temple in Kanyakumari following the conclusion of the seven-phase campaign for India’s Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister’s final election campaign took place in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur on Thursday ahead of the final round of voting on June 1.
PM Modi will meditate from Thursday evening till June 1 evening at Dhyan Mandapam, the place where Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda is believed to have experienced a divine vision of ‘Bharat Mata’. Perched on a rock in the middle of the vast ocean, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial stands as an everlasting tribute to his life and teachings.
A legacy in stone
Built in 1970, the monument stands on one of two islets about 500 metres from the mainland. Legend has it that this rock is where Swami Vivekananda meditated for several days and attained enlightenment in 1892.
The style reflects a beautiful amalgamation of Indian architectural traditions. The main hall, Vivekananda Mandapam, is a blend of Chola and Rajput styles, with a square structure at the base. Sripada Mandapamrepresents a more monastic style.
The monument can be reached via a scenic ferry ride, offering breathtaking views of the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea.
Visitors can climb the rock through bridges and stairs carved into the rock face. The Vivekananda Temple contains a life-sized bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda where visitors can pay their respects. The meditation hall provides a tranquil space for quiet meditation.
