The Shalya Tantra Department of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, successfully conducted the Second National Seminar “SAUSHRUTAM Shalya Sangoshti” on the auspicious occasion of Sushruta Jayanti-2024.
Sushruta Jayanti is celebrated every year on July 15 to honour the legendary Sushruta, regarded as the father of surgery. The seminar began on July 13 and concluded today.
Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Founder Director, AIIMS Bhopal, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony. Prof. Padamshri Manoranjan Sahu, Founder Director, AIIA Delhi, Prof. Anurag Srivastav, Former Head, Department of Surgery, AIIMS New Delhi and Dr. MC Misra, Former Director, AIIMS, were the guests of honour.
AIIA Director Prof. Tanuja Nesari (Dr.) and Dean Shalyatantra Prof. Yogesh Badwe (Dr.) welcomed all the guests and briefed them about the seminar.
During the first two days, 25 complex surgical procedures were demonstrated live, giving participants a unique opportunity to observe and learn various surgical techniques from renowned surgeons.
At the live surgery workshop, surgeries were performed on patients with Bagandar (anal fistula), Alusha (hemorrhoids), Pilonidal sinus, gallbladder stones, hernia etc. using modern techniques like VAAFT, laparoscopy, laser and traditional Sheila technique. Around 1500 patients have benefited from AIIA’s surgical procedures in the last one year.
On the opening day, AIIA Director Prof. Nesari along with esteemed dignitaries presented mementos and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials relevant to the sector.
