Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala on Monday night began a year-long celebration to mark the prestigious charity hospital’s 100th anniversary. Established in his 1924 by Vaidyaratnam PS Varrier, the legendary doctor and founder of Arya Vaidyasala, this charitable hospital offers both Ayurveda and Allopathy and has opened hundreds of clinics over the past 100 years. We have treated millions of patients.
At the outset of the celebration, Justice Devan Ramachandran of the Kerala High Court said Ayurveda would be well equipped to meet the challenges posed by modern lifestyle diseases. He said Ayurveda has become increasingly relevant, especially after the coronavirus pandemic.
Arya Vaidya Sala Managing Director and Chief Physician P. Madhavankutty Varier unveiled the centenary logo of the charity hospital, fondly known to the locals as Dharmaspatri. Arya Vaidya Sala Chief Executive Officer K. Harikumar presided over the function.
Actor Asha Sharat and Almas Hospital Chairman PA Kabir attended the ceremony as guests. Arya Vaidya Sala Trustee CE Unnikrishnan welcomed the gathering. Charity Hospital Director K. Lekha proposed a vote of thanks.
The year-long celebration will feature seminars, lectures, exhibitions, cultural programs and drama performances based on the life of Arya Vaidya Sala founder Vaidyaratnam PS Varrier.
Established in 1924, the Charity Hospital continues to be a symbol of the social contribution and extraordinary humanity displayed by Vaidyaratnam PS Varrier.
Charity Hospital has provided free allopathic and Ayurvedic treatment since its inception and remains unique in many ways. We provide free treatment to hundreds of patients every day. Last year alone, approximately 200,000 patients received free treatment at its outpatient wing. Free hospitalization services were provided to more than 2,000 people.
Apart from allopathic and Ayurvedic outpatient and inpatient wings, the hospital has special cancer and mental health clinics. Recently, Charity Hospital opened a palliative care clinic named Sanjeevanam. Additionally, a clinical research center is functioning within the hospital.
