ALEXANDRIA — Nutrition staff at Alexandria Area High School have been selected as 2024 Hero Site Award recipients by the Minnesota School Nutrition Association, an award that recognizes excellence in teamwork, creativity and customer service.
The award was presented to Alexandria Area High School’s assistant kitchen manager team, Renee Feiler, Marie Linow and Emily Short, who are a talented team with great respect for one another and a shared passion for creating great food, according to an MSNA news release.

The team is described as highly collaborative, enthusiastic about their day-to-day roles and always looking for new ways to provide fresh menu options for students. They often create new recipes from scratch while exceeding expectations, according to the news release.
Feiler, Linow and Short are nutrition educators who understand the value of healthy eating, according to a news release, and they’ve begun incorporating unused raw vegetables from the Fresh Garden Bar’s daily menu into the next day’s menu and adding roasted vegetables and other items to the lunch menu.
“Feiler, Linow and Short are proactive and demonstrate strong leadership, encouraging others to take on new challenges and collaborate. They are known for creating a positive atmosphere in the kitchen, encouraging hard work and efficiency with plenty of laughter and respect for one another,” said MSNA President Michelle Hawkinson.
Feiler, Linow and Short will be recognized by MSNA as part of National School Lunch Heroes Day and will be honored by MSNA members at the organization’s annual conference in St. Cloud in August.
