Efforts to have a veteran Queensland acupuncturist dismissed after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with “one or more patients” have failed.
Andrew Jamie Orr takes the case to the Court of Appeal after the healthcare watchdog accused him of repurposing acupuncture and inappropriate relationships with “one or more patients” in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. I woke you up.
Mr Orr argued at QCAT that the search warrant and statutory notice issued by the state’s health ombudsman were unlawful, but QCAT’s judicial commissioner David Reid rejected his bid to drop the case against him.
In a judgment handed down by Justice Debra Mullins on April 30, John Bond and Acting Judge Hugh Fraser refused to overturn Mr Reid’s sentence.
Orr, a herbalist, runs a reproductive health clinic on Gloucester Street in Spring Hill.
He graduated from Australian Catholic University with a degree in health sciences in 1998, according to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority.
Mr Orr has a Facebook page with 8,400 followers and calls himself “Brisbane’s Baby Maker” to promote his services.
“Mr Andrew Orr is one of Australia’s leading health professionals with over 20 years’ experience supporting reproductive health,” he said on his website.
Disciplinary proceedings continue at QCAT.
