Bella Hadid has been in the spotlight for more than a decade, but there’s still something refreshingly open about the Palestinian-Dutch supermodel. When we met over Zoom on Monday afternoon, she wore no makeup, her hair slicked back, and a simple black cloth headband. “One day I woke up and saw something on Instagram,” she shares, without revealing what sparked what many now consider to be a change in her health. “I decided to take this journey because I knew I needed to change my life to be happy with myself. Through her pain and ongoing battle with Lyme disease (and the many physical and cognitive symptoms that come with it), Hadid has found ways to keep herself grounded and happy, and in her words I started focusing on what would help me. Another of those habits is essential oils, which led to her new beauty venture, Orbella, released today. She said that two years ago, when she traveled to visit Palestinian relatives in Washington, D.C., “my uncle Mahmoud was making essential oils while my father and I were playing backgammon by the fire. “I discovered that,” she says. I did not understand. “Orebella, who still doesn’t have a name, was already in the works. It’s a play on her model’s last name (Hadid means iron) and the English translation of her name.
