Plans to build a new purpose-built yoga and Pilates studio in the Bridge of Don have been given permission.
Lauren Adams fell in love with yoga while attending a vocational training course at Baker Hughes in Canada in 2013 and decided to train as a yoga teacher.
The 34-year-old has been teaching at Get Active @ Jesmond for the past two years, but will now have her own space called The Studio.

When Lauren realized there was a demand for yoga in the area, she decided to take the plunge and start her own business. The wireline field engineer has the keys to the unit and plans to begin remodeling his former office space this weekend.
Fortunately, her family is quick to help. Contractors won’t be able to get to work until next month, but Lauren hopes the fitness studio will be open by May 20th.
“This project started in October, so the anticipation has been high for a long time. I’m really excited to transform the space, but also a little scared that everything is about to change,” says Lauren. explained. Authentic. “
But Lauren is confident that all her hard work will pay off in the end. “I know that helping people transform their physical and mental health is worth the effort,” she said.
“So many people have contacted us to say they want to take control of their health in the context of COVID-19 and an aging population. It’s great to see people really looking for longevity in their habits.”I’m focused on getting as thin as possible for the summer holidays. ”
Since announcing her studio plans earlier this year, Lauren has received an “amazing” response from the community. She conducted the first wave of pre-open membership and already she has 72 members signed up.
Meanwhile, about 1,350 people have signed up to her email list for updates. Lauren has just started her second pre-sale and she hopes to have 130 members by the time The Studio officially launches.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who jumped on the yoga train with me even before I opened my practice,” she said. “I can’t wait to create a truly magical space for them.”
Lauren has also started ordering all the mats and equipment needed and will have goodie bags available for all members for the opening weekend. Classes are held daily and are suitable for yoga fans of all ages and experience levels.
Lauren will lead some of the sessions, but then four other teachers have signed up to help, along with two Pilates instructors. Among them is Alice Leung, who moved to the UK from Hong Kong two years ago.
She completed her Vinyasa and Hot Power Yoga training in Oxford last summer and will soon be teaching at Bridge of Don. Alice offers Vinyasa and Hatha Flow lessons.
Yin Yoga is held on Tuesday lunchtimes under the guidance of Claire Abbott. Claire is a proud mother, artist, writer, and community activist, and those who attend her sessions will notice poetry and prose woven throughout her classes.
Brad Whittingham will also be joining us in the studio. He began teaching in his 2012 and specializes in Vinyasa, Yin, and Kundalini yoga.
First, Brad will host an intermediate power vinyasa on Wednesday nights, followed by a breathing class. However, if there is enough interest, he plans to consider holding Kundalini yoga classes in the future.
Finally, Jenna Beatty is one of the studio’s new Pilates instructors. She hosts sessions suitable for all levels on Thursday nights.
Planners at Aberdeen City Council backed the proposal for a yoga studio, saying it would bring empty space back into use. They welcomed the health benefits and exercise opportunities it brings to users of Don Bridge and beyond.
Planning directors also believed that a yoga studio would be highly beneficial to the retail location. They explained that “classes operate in the early morning, lunchtime and evening hours and it is believed that the proposed use will undoubtedly contribute to the vitality and viability of the shopping centre.”
The new fitness studio will join a pharmacy, office, butcher, hairdresser, grocery store and post office already on the Braehead Way site.
