STOW – Jeff Belanger prepares to climb 19,341 feet to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the famous seven peaks, the roof of Africa, on “The Call of Kilimanjaro” on Tuesday, April 16th at 6:30 p.m. Sho. Pompo Community Center, 509 Great Road. This event is hosted by Randall Library.
The Call of Kilimanjaro, a memoir by author, adventurer and television presenter, takes you on a breathtaking multimedia journey through Tanzania that is spiritual, motivational and uplifting. I’ll take you there. An honest and engaging account of one amateur hiker’s journey to spiritual transformation.
“After my brother-in-law Chris passed away from cancer, I decided to take the trip of a lifetime to honor him and gain clarity on my own life and goals,” Bélanger said. Ta.
The Call of Kilimanjaro, published in 2021, is a chronicle of Belanger’s daily climb to the top of Africa’s highest mountain. This book is both a book for all ages, from 10 to her centenarian, and a memoir for armchair travelers interested in spirituality.
This book helps Mr. Bélanger assess his own accomplishments, look to the lofty goals he has set before himself, and, while keeping an honest look at his past, aim even higher than he has ever dared to attempt before. Belanger climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s training program and to raise money for cancer research.
Copies of The Call of Kilimanjaro will be sold at the event, with a portion of the proceeds going to LLS to help fight blood cancer.
What he learned in the process changed his life.
“This is more than just a story about man’s mountaineering,” Bélanger said. “It’s about facing our midlife and the future,” he said. “It’s about loss and struggle, but most of all it’s about hope. No matter the journey, there’s always hope for the next step.”
