A new video was released on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed the second and final day of his meditation in Kanyakumari. Clad in a saffron dhoti-kurta and scarf, the prime minister Japanamala (Rosary).
During the sunrise at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, PM Modi also performed ‘Surya Argya’, a ritual linked to spiritual practices that entails saluting to the almighty God manifested in the form of the sun.
The Prime Minister poured water into the ocean from a small traditional beaker-like vessel and offered prayers as an offering (argya). Japanamala.
PM Modi also paid floral tribute to the statue of Swami Vivekananda. He said:Japanamala‘ in my hand.
Kanyakumari is famous for its sunrises and sunsets and the memorial is on a small island close to the coast. The Prime Minister will begin his meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on the evening of May 30 and conclude it on Saturday evening.
BJP spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said PM Modi embodies the cultural and traditional spirit of the Indian nation, which is visible in temples in different parts of the country and even in places like Balochistan.
Trivedi’s statement came after the Opposition alleged that broadcasting videos and pictures of PM Modi’s meditation was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The Bharatiya Janata Party criticised the opposition parties’ political activities, saying they do not understand India or Indianness.
Trivedi said the opposition parties can never understand this as they are trying to eradicate Sanatan Dharma and fight against “Shakti”. They hate efforts to revive Indian traditions, temples and holy places, he alleged.
Opposition leaders dislike leaders who meditate quietly, but they have a tradition of paying homage at the tomb of Mughal king Babur, naming names like Jawaharlal Nehru and Rahul Gandhi, and holding iftars where neither host nor guests fast, a BJP spokesman said.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Modi also visited Kedarnath in Uttarakhand for a similar activity just before the results were announced, where he undertook a 15-hour solitary meditation.
