A free workshop on healthier eating habits will be held at Niagara Falls High School (4455 Porter Road) on July 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is hosted by Daffany’s Fabulous Objective Weekly Workshops in collaboration with the Niagara Falls School District and Niagara County Health Department, and will also feature a healthy catered lunch.
Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton said nutrition literacy helps people make informed decisions about food choices and develop healthy eating habits that improve their health and well-being. He said about 10 percent of Niagara County residents over the age of 18 have diabetes, and of those, 74 percent have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes develops when glucose stays in the blood and isn’t used for energy.
“Eating a healthy diet is one of the most important things you can do to help control your diabetes,” Stapleton said.
