Start
- Find a quiet place where you can sit up straight and comfortably, such as the edge of your bed, the floor, or a chair.
- Close your eyes and focus on your breathing or another focus to be fully present.
- Loosen your shoulders, relax your jaw, soften your eyebrows, and relax your body.
Think of the people in your life that you can rely on when you are in trouble. If you can think of a few friends, family members, neighbors, or partners, consider yourself lucky. Research shows that social support plays an important role in our mental and physical health and can also help us cope better with stressful situations.
Think of a time when someone in your circle helped you deeply. Embrace the feelings this brings you, whether it’s warmth, security, love, or all of the above. Similarly, think back to the last time you helped someone in your circle through a difficult time. Notice how your body feels when you support them in this way.
The next time you feel anxious or worried, come back to this meditation and reflect on your community and remember the reassurance and support they provide.
