Rapper Lil Jon starts his day by telling himself three affirmations: “I’m happy. I’m healthy. I’m at peace.” This practice is more than just a habit, it’s a transformative moment in the rapper’s life.
“I said those affirmations every day,” he said. “During the day, when I close my eyes before bed, it’s also a time to meditate when I feel calm. And those affirmations help. And meditation helps me get into a more positive mindset.” “I gave it to you,” he said.
In a surprising turn from his signature Southern “crank” style, the rapper, DJ, and producer recently released a new album titled “Total Meditation.” The album features guided meditations and mantras voiced by Lil Jon himself, and is intended to offer listeners a journey to calm and peace, contrasting with his energetic party anthems. It’s a target.
The 52-year-old’s goal is to bring listeners to a place of calm and serenity, offering mediation on “all aspects” of someone’s life. The transition to meditation and introspection came several years ago after Lil Jon encountered a health scare, overhauled his lifestyle, and stopped drinking alcohol.
“I feel like I’m starting to come out of the fog and my head is clearer,” Lil Jon said.
In creating “Total Meditation,” he was determined to ensure that his voice conveyed the serenity and clarity necessary for effective meditation, a significant departure from the high-energy vocal style he was previously known for. Did.
“You can’t just scream all the time,” he said. “For any song, you can find the perfect voice for that track. So it took me a while to find the right voice. I wanted to know if my voice was pleasant and would help me relax. I really wanted to make sure I said: Words properly and clearly. It took me a little while in the studio to figure that out.”
Lil Jon said the response to “Total Meditation” has been overwhelmingly positive.
“I’ve had so many friends and people in general say to me, ‘Wow, I’ve never meditated before, I tried your album, I actually fell asleep, I actually feel good. ‘It helped me cope.’ I have some sadness in my life,” he said. “People really like it. People are hitting me up saying they listen to these meditations every day. These are meant to be played every day if needed.”
Lil Jon’s daily routine now includes meditating under a copper pyramid, ginger tea and his affirmations. As he grew older, he recognized the deep peace that comes from accepting the events of his life.
“If you accept whatever happens in your life, you don’t feel stressed because you know it’s going to be okay,” he says.
