MILWAUKEE — There are several ways to approach fitness these days, but few are effective for everyone.
From joint and muscle pain to scoliosis, Pilates may be one of the best ways to increase your physical strength wherever you are in your health journey.
Developed by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise that is perfect for everyone.
I discovered a hidden gem and would like to share it with you.
“Body Language Pilates” is a new business in Bayview. I met owner Samantha Stippan to learn how she uses this form of exercise to help her clients connect with their bodies.
“I always thought I was running my own business, but I fell completely in love with Pilates and the effect it had on me. Once I started teaching, I realized that I could share that knowledge with others. I realized how much I love sharing with people,” Samantha said.
I thought Pilates was an 80’s fad, but Samantha says: “Pilates is making a comeback and is surging because there is a really deep connection between mind and body.”
Lying on your back in many positions is suitable for everyone. This provides relief from gravity, which allows the small muscles covering your joints to relax and strengthen.
One of Samantha’s clients, Sandra Wilson, 83, who is visually impaired, finds that Pilates not only improves her core strength and balance, but also helps with the arthritis that is essential to navigating the streets. He says it’s effective.
Body Language Pilates inspires empathy, enables evolution, encourages exploration, and fosters friendship. These are the pillars of Samantha’s business.
