To combat the stigma around mental health issues, Bucks County Community College will host “NAMI In Our Own Voice” on Tuesday, April 2 at 12:30 p.m. on the Newtown campus and online.

Speakers Mia Scozzo and Rachel Hetrick will share their personal perspectives and speak candidly about their experiences to change attitudes, assumptions and thoughts about people with mental health conditions.

Mr. Scozzo, Nami Bucks County Youth Programs Director, visits with students to talk about the warning signs of mental health conditions, facts and statistics, and how to get help. For example, she developed a program called Small Talk for elementary school students to learn how to name their emotions, differentiate between them, and practice healthy coping skills. Scozzo shares her personal recovery journey to help eliminate her stigma around mental health and to help others feel less alone.

Hetrick is a Philadelphia-based graphic designer who loves expressing himself and exercising through painting and illustration. Her mental health advocacy is a huge part of her life and spreading hope is her passion.

This presentation is free and open to the public and will also provide information on how to learn more about mental health and get involved in the mental health community.

“NAMI In Our Own Voice” will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 12:30 p.m. in the Gallagher Room in the Rollins Center on campus at 275 Swamp Road in Newtown.

The presentation can also be viewed live online. To register for a Zoom session, visit https://bit.ly/NAMIatBucks.

This event is sponsored by the BCCC Psychology Club and the DEI Program in the University’s Office of External Affairs. For more information, contact Jean Dolan at jean.dolan@bucks.edu or 215-968-8094.
