Banaras Hindu University and Korea’s Yongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding for academic and research cooperation in the field of traditional medicine between India and Korea. The memorandum was signed by Registrar Professor Arun Kumar Singh and Lee Tae-ho, Executive Director of the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation at the BHU Central Registry Office.
This understanding paves the way for the development and operation of wellness and cultural tourism based on traditional medicine in both countries.
It may be noted that BHU is a pioneering institution when it comes to the study, research and application of traditional medicine in India. The University’s Ayurveda Department, affiliated with the Institute of Medical Sciences, is known worldwide for its contributions in the field of traditional medicine.
The memorandum of understanding provides for the holding of joint seminars and conferences on traditional medicine wellness and cultural tourism in both countries, as well as supporting professional exchanges and training.
Indian and Korean traditional medicine have many similarities in terms of principles and practices. This understanding is expected to further foster mutual cooperation in this field between the two countries and open new avenues of opportunity in healthcare, education, wellness industries and cultural ties.
