Don’t blame young people for new anti-aging trends

Despite growing interest in anti-aging among young people, similar efforts have not been made to ask why. Aging has been dismissed by many as a problem that only affects preteens and teens, but in reality, our obsession with aging is the culmination of the efforts of generations before them, and social It seems likely that this is an amplified result of media expansion. What distinguishes these generations from older generations is not really about them, but rather about the world in general.

Many have mistakenly labeled early initiation of anti-aging as a new obsession with not aging. However, if we reconstruct the anomaly, it is easy to see that every generation has experienced this crisis at some point. The use of anti-aging products has been used by some people in every generation since their invention. What is different about this younger generation is that they become obsessed with their age, and not with their mid-40s, as they have in the past, but with their teenage years and even childhood. It becomes. The reason behind this timeline change is a little more complicated than its impact

First, the reach of social media has expanded beyond anything that existed before, especially for young people. Their entire understanding of the world, including their perception of their age, has been permanently altered by the presence of social media. Young people often use social media to connect with their peers, but what they see on their feeds doesn’t necessarily reflect that. In addition to other children, they also meet adults twice their age, whose lives are completely different from theirs. These young people are influenced to constantly think about their age by seeing adults fixated on both the physical signs of aging and the concept of aging itself. Teaching by example has taught an entire generation that the best years of life are within the first quarter of life. This is a sentimental word for older people, but a scary one for younger people who feel as though getting older is a bad thing. This is not a new idea, but it has certainly been amplified by the use of social media. In other words, young people do not yet have the ability to be part of a community that does not think about aging.

Furthermore, the social environment of the world in which the younger generation spent their childhood was one of pessimism and cynicism. All their lives they have been told that the world is dying and that the world in old age will be very different from what it is now. Therefore, it is natural that they do not want to grow old, since they associate aging with destruction and death. Young people develop concerns about aging much earlier because older generations haven’t experienced the same things.

While it’s easy to dismiss these trends as superficial, it’s important to understand that young people’s childhoods were hectic in many ways. In an era of school shootings and racial violence, few children have the luxury of staying young. Their obsession with not getting old is a combination of the midlife crisis they experienced generations ago and the social impact aging has on them.
