As the cost of living continues to rise, pursuing Pilates is becoming increasingly out of reach for many Australians, with a recent survey of over 3,000 people by Kic revealing that 73% of Pilates enthusiasts have either stopped (31%) or scaled back (42%) their in-studio Pilates classes altogether due to the rising cost of lessons.
The survey highlights the barriers women face with studio Pilates: 64 percent of women are charged cancellation fees and an average fee of $16 per class 85 percent of women miss out on exercising because of waiting lists at their local studio 80 percent of women pay for studio/gym memberships they don’t use Of those who haven’t tried studio Pilates, cost is the main barrier (86 percent), followed by one in three who are scared or embarrassed to try studio Pilates.
People spend an average of $160 per month on Pilates, with one in four paying between $200 and $300. 73% of Pilates goers have completely stopped (31%) or cut back (42%) on studio Pilates classes due to the cost of classes. One in three now do Pilates at home, one in four do a studio/home hybrid, and one in four have stopped Pilates altogether.
