Northeast India’s first 100-bed yoga and naturopathic hospital to come up in Dibrugarh
Union Ayurveda Minister and Assam Chief Minister hold foundation stone laying ceremony for Central Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy
Nearly Rs 1,000 crore will be invested to set up a state-of-the-art laboratory on 15 acres of land.
CRIYN will be developed as a centre of excellence in Yoga and Naturopathy for Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) in India and develop management protocols for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Union Minister of State for Ayurveda, Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today performed the foundation stone ceremony of the Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) along with a 100-bedded Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital at Dihing Kamtighat, Dibrugarh.

The facility will be developed on a land plot of around 15 acres (45 bighas) with an investment of around Rs 100 crore with an aim to bring about scientifically valid and useful synergy between traditional knowledge of Yoga and Naturopathy and modern technological tools. It will establish benchmark standards for education, preventive healthcare and research in the field of Yoga and Naturopathy. This state-of-the-art institute will focus on fundamental aspects of traditional medical systems and practices, scientific validation through evidence-based research, apart from acting as an international collaboration centre for global promotion and research of Yoga and Naturopathy. The institute will also act as an incubation centre for start-ups in the Yoga and Wellness sector.
Addressing the gathering, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ayush movement received a major boost and has become a pioneering global health movement. Today, we laid the foundation stone for a first-of-its-kind Central Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy with a 100-bed hospital in Dibrugarh. This is another testament to PM Modi’s commitment to harnessing the rich flora and fauna of Assam and the entire Northeast, promoting the expansion of the Ayush sector and encouraging peripheral growth in hospitality, patient care and medical tourism sectors. Mother Nature has blessed us with immense beauty. Scientifically validated treatments of rejuvenation through yoga, naturopathy, Ayurveda and other traditional medicines will go a long way in bringing healing to the people of the neighbouring region as well as the South Asian region.”
The facility will also provide a clinical training facility to train yoga and naturopathic experts for capacity building programs in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation, diabetic rehabilitation, autoimmune diseases and NCD risk reduction. Through research and development of yoga and naturopathic protocols, CRIYN will develop evidence-based protocols for NCD management that can be integrated with conventional treatments, enhancing integrative medicine approach in patient care. The hospital will provide inpatient services with yoga and naturopathic protocols to improve healing and quality of life.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ““Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Government has provided immense support by adding one Central institution after another, strengthening the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Institutions like AIIMS, the start of medical colleges in each district of Assam, strengthening the Ayush healthcare system with new Ayush hospitals across Assam and many other progressive measures have strengthened the healthcare infrastructure in the state. Naturopathy and Yoga are the two most important branches of Ayush that not only cure diseases but also rejuvenate the mind and body to face any challenge and lead a healthy life. With the start of this hospital and research centre in Yoga and Naturopathy, the people of not only Assam but also adjoining regions will immensely benefit from its many benefits.”
The event was also attended by dignitaries including Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Labour and Employment Sr. Rameswar Teli, Assam Minister for Health and Family Welfare Sr. Keshav Mahanta, Minister of State for Commerce, Industry and Culture Sr. Bimal Bora, Dibrugarh Member of Parliament and Chairman, Assam Industrial Development Council (AIDC) Sr. Prasanta Phukan, Morang Member of Parliament Sr. Chakradhar Gogoi, Duliajan Member of Parliament Sr. Telash Gowala, Lahowal Member of Parliament Sr. Vinod Hazarika, Chabua Member of Parliament Sr. Ponnakant Baruah, Naharkatia Member of Parliament Sr. Taranga Gogoi and other senior officials from the Ayush Ministry and the Government of Assam.
The hospital offers inpatient, outpatient and day care services. The services offered by the institute are Naturopathy Food & Nutrition, Yoga Therapy, Massage & Manual Therapy, Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Chromotherapy, Magnetic Therapy, Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy. They help in effectively managing Obesity, Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes, CVD, Stroke, Asthma, COPD, Migraine, IBS, IBD, Arthritis, Autoimmune Diseases, Cancer and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
