PATNA: Nishant Kumar, the only son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has personally hinted that he has no plans to join politics, quelling speculation that he will be taking an active role in politics, at least for the time being.
“I am on a spiritual path and came here to buy a speaker to hear the ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ bhajan better. I listen to this bhajan on my mobile phone every morning. With the new device, I can hear it better,” Nishant said while replying to media queries at a market in state capital Patna.
Though he preferred not to talk about his political ambitions, he hinted that he has no plans to join politics anytime soon, as earlier suggested by Janata Dal leaders. This was the 49-year-old’s first media appearance after rumours were rife that he might be appointed as the Janata Dal chief.
After emerging from a shopping complex known for its electronics, Nishant got into a waiting car and started walking towards his destination. A security guard escorting him opened the car door. “I am on a spiritual path, that’s all,” Nishant insisted.
Nishant, like his father, is an engineering graduate but unlike his other political siblings, he is rarely seen in public with his father, the chief minister. He is still single and lives with his father at No. 1 Ann Marg, the official residence of the prime minister, after the death of his mother, Manju Sinha.
He occasionally travels along with the Chief Minister to his native village Kalimbiga in Nalanda to pay tribute to Manju, a retired government school teacher.Rumours about the possible presentation of Nishant gained steam last month after JD(U) official Vidyanand Vikal posted that Bihar needed young leaders in the new political landscape.
