Who: The Institute for Spirituality and Health and its Greater Houston Healing Collaborative (GHHC) partners will host a free virtual event for the community to help people recover from the mental and emotional stress caused by Hurricane Beryl. “Breathing After Beryl” will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
“In times of crisis, the strength of community connections becomes more evident and essential. The mind-body medicine skills we share provide evidence-based tools to help individuals manage stress, heal trauma, and foster resilience. These promote individual health, strengthen community fabric, and create supportive environments in which everyone can thrive,” said Aproteem Choudhury, director of the institute’s Greater Houston Healing Collaborative.
Choudhury and Leah Adams Pruittvice president of engagement at the Spirituality and Health Institute, will be available for an interview with Choudhury and Adams Pruitt to discuss coordinated response efforts, the resources they’re mobilizing, and the critical role of community collaboration in recovery.
what: Breathing After Beryl: A Community Care Gathering
This free online event will provide an opportunity for all in the Houston area to come together and reflect on the impacts of the recent hurricanes on our community. Together, participants will practice mind-body skills, connect, release tension, and discuss future opportunities to come together and practice self-care.
The Greater Houston Healing Collaborative, a flagship program of our Body, Mind and Spirit Center, was born out of the need for mental health support that arose after Hurricane Harvey. Since then, the Collaborative has been a beacon of hope and healing during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing support groups for medical professionals and other first responders. We have trained more than 120 facilitators and impacted the lives of more than 30,000 people throughout the Houston area.
