YOUNG READERS — Yale Devereaux reads to London (left) and Jett Jiles, ages 10 and 8, respectively, during a Juneteenth celebration at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center on June 15. The DeLand Quakers hosted a book distribution and reading corner at the event, where 689 Black history and banned books found new homes.

Jesus and John

Sunday, July 14th, First Presbyterian Church of DeLand We welcome Rev Drs. R. Michael FoleyWe invited Mr. , retired pastor and pastor emeritus of Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, as our guest pastor.

Using Mark 6:14-29, Pastor Foley will preach a sermon called “Jesus and John.”

Mark recounts Jesus’ active ministry, which began with the execution of John the Baptist by King Herod. The clear connection between John and Jesus is made clear by the continuation of the same message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” John’s preaching of repentance prepares followers of Christ to say “NO!” to sin and to say “YES!” to Jesus the Savior.

Pastor Foley invites the audience to say “Yes!” now and join the kingdom that God has prepared for us.

This Saturday, July 13th, twice a month God’s Bath We will be welcoming those needing hygiene support in the church courtyard at 9 a.m. Kind volunteers will assist with private showers, providing clean towels, clothing, hygiene kits, manna bags, and mingling until noon.

The President of the Church invites everyone to join in on the fun and fellowship. “Pop-up” Pop-ups are happening all around downtown DeLand this summer. On Tuesday, July 16th, starting at 10:30 a.m., the DeLand Art Museum (600 N. Woodland Blvd.) will be hosting a pop-up. Free or with a minimal fee (in some cases), friends can come and enjoy some fun with friendly neighbors. For more information, call 386-734-6212.

The six-part series, which focuses on prayer and learning about connecting with God and others, will conclude on Wednesday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Do your best

“Summer Psalms” First Church of DelandSunday, July 14, Rev. Mark BitnerThe title of the sermon is “What You Put Out Is What You Get.”

In life, we quickly learn that half-hearted efforts do not produce satisfactory results. If you are asked to bake a cake for a picnic and do not follow the recipe carefully, you may end up with a bad cake that embarrasses your friend. However, your friend who bakes brownies puts extra effort into their work and ends up with a delicious cake.

Let us commit ourselves to doing our best and representing God well.

Remembering those who died

Congregation Mosaic Unitarian Universalist We will continue our Summer Sharing Series with a roundtable-style service online on Sunday, July 14, at 11 a.m. Participants will speak about those they have lost.

Before we come together, please ponder the following questions: Who is someone who is no longer in your life, but whose memory continues to have a deep impact on you? How can you honor your lost loved one with your actions?

Facilitator Theresa Leary will guide the discussion. See the Religion Directory for ways to get involved. Everyone is welcome to join.
