There’s nothing better than seeing your beauty routine come together. From shiny, healthy hair to clear skin, the possibilities are endless with a solid beauty routine. Using the right products lays the foundation for achieving the results you want, but some people want to go a step further. That’s where beauty vitamins, or supplements, come in.
Ask most consumers and it seems the jury is still out on beauty vitamins. Some beauty experts swear that hair, nail, and skin vitamins have improved their health, from firmer, shinier nails to stimulating hair growth. Others, on the other hand, believe it’s simply the influencer culture that’s behind it. In other words, the beauty industry is in a quandary.
Expert opinion
While many experts have different opinions on beauty vitamins, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Doris Day says there’s more to beauty vitamins than just taking a supplement regularly: It comes down to the science and the ingredients used.
“While it may be tempting to try a new supplement you find on social media, it’s important to consider the quality of the ingredients,” says Dr. Day. Yo, beauty“It’s important to make sure the ingredients are standardized and clinically tested, as this can affect the overall efficacy of the supplement. We also recommend consulting your doctor before adding any supplements to your diet.”
Dr. Todd Dorfman, chief medical officer at ReBalance Health, agrees, saying results may vary depending on a consumer’s health and other factors that affect a supplement’s effectiveness.
“Some research and anecdotal evidence suggests that these supplements may be beneficial, especially for people who are deficient in certain nutrients,” says Dr. Dorfman. “Ingredients like biotin, collagen, and vitamins A, C, and E are often touted for their potential to improve hair strength, skin elasticity, and nail health. However, it’s important to note that the efficacy of these supplements can vary widely from person to person. The best results are usually seen in people who are deficient in the nutrients provided by the supplement.”
Additionally, Dr. Day and Dr. Dorfman agree that consumers should maintain a balanced, nutritious diet and consult with their healthcare provider before taking beauty vitamins.
