Experts share the best skin care routine for women over 40 to maintain a youthful glow

Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine for 40’s: If you talk to women in their 30s, they’ll tell you they’re just rich 20-somethings, and then when they hit their 40s, they’ll say, “I’m just like my 30s, but I look a lot better.” We’re all craving a treasure trove of knowledge, but there’s no denying that the wisdom of years of living starts to show on our faces in the form of wrinkles, finer skin, and sagging skin. And now, as women age, they’re much more open about embracing their age than ever before, but who said they have to look their age? Skincare is all the rage right now for a specific reason. And the good news is, with the right skincare approach, you can keep your skin looking youthful even in your 40s.

We asked Dr. Michaela Allen Correll, Head of Medical Sciences at Sebamed, to help us find the right skin care tips to help us stay beautiful in our 40s. “Women over 40 often suffer from common skin care concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dryness, and uneven skin tone,” says Dr. Correll. “As we age, our skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin slows, causing it to lose firmness and elasticity. Additionally, our skin can become thinner and more susceptible to dehydration, resulting in a dull complexion.”

To combat these issues, it’s important to incorporate products containing key ingredients into your skincare routine. Hyaluronic Acid and Coenzyme Q10 are essential for supporting healthy, youthful-looking skin. Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and plumps skin, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant, aids in the production of collagen and elastin, promoting skin firmness and elasticity.

“Sweet almond oil, shea butter, and squalane are great for replenishing the skin’s lipid balance, leaving it soft and supple,” adds Dr. Corell. These ingredients help lock in moisture, prevent dryness, and maintain a healthy glow. Vitamin E is another key ingredient known for its ability to neutralize free radicals and protect skin from environmental damage.

Panthenol, or Pro-Vitamin B5, is effective in supporting skin regeneration and healing. It soothes and hydrates the skin, making it an excellent addition to any anti-aging skin care regimen. Plus, it helps balance the skin’s pH to 5.5, helping to keep skin radiant and supple.

Sunscreen is a skin care essential for women over 40. “Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day is essential to prevent further sun damage and keep skin healthy,” stresses Dr. Correll. Sunscreen protects skin from harmful UV rays that can accelerate aging and increase the risk of skin cancer.

Effective anti-aging skin care products and treatments include anti-aging creams, hydrating serums, and moisturizers containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins, nourishing oils, and shea butter that work together to hydrate, nourish, and protect the skin, leaving it looking youthful and radiant.
