Organizers of a free online meditation session called “City of Love Meditation” have the goal of infusing the city with a sense of community connection during the Republican National Convention.
A “City of Love” meditation event hosted by Meditate Milwaukee will take place from 6-7pm on Wednesday, July 17. International musician Brenda McMorrow will lead the experience across two different platforms, and it will be held online to bring together participants from within Milwaukee and beyond.
“We want to see thousands of people of all backgrounds come together and spread love and positivity in our city,” said co-organizer Kaita Brifert. “We think there’s a real need for people to come together right now to foster a sense of compassion and understanding.”
Meditate Milwaukee is nonpartisan and not affiliated with any political party.
“Large group meditation has been shown to have a positive impact on the environment around it,” said co-organizer Tracy Schwartz. “We see the Milwaukee event as an opportunity to shift attention away from the division that is so prevalent in our culture and toward connection and love.”
Anyone with some meditation experience is welcome, as are first-time participants.
Sponsored by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Convergence Fund, “Meditate Milwaukee” is an offshoot program of local nonprofit Blue Lotus Center.
“This is an opportunity to embrace our desire to be more contemplative and thoughtful as we come together virtually,” Brifert says.
