A 51-year-old woman has revealed the serum she uses to reduce sun damage without having to spend money on expensive medications.

She says the affordable serum is a staple in her morning skincare routine before applying any other products.

She shared her advice on Reddit’s 45 Plus Skincare forum in response to a user’s question asking for tips on removing sun damage from the face.

Super Serum

Women said skin care experts would recommend lasers and tretinoin, which are “wonderful,” but are expensive and the effects may only be temporary.

“Previously I was taking a high-quality vitamin C in the morning,” she writes under the handle Telephonetag2123.

“SkinCeuticals Vitamin C and Iron Acid are the best quality, but they are very expensive.

“Timeless brand Vitamin C with Iron Acid is also good.

“I buy directly from their website to ensure it’s as fresh as possible.

“In the morning, after washing my face with water, I apply Vitamin C, then moisturizer and sunscreen.”

Skinceuticals’ Vitamin C serum retails for an eye-watering $182 on the brand’s website.

Meanwhile, the Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum is priced at just $26.95.

The Reddit user said there are plenty of other over-the-counter beauty products that target sun damage.

She swears by using Glitone or The Ordinary’s azelaic acid every night after washing her face, and wearing sunscreen daily to prevent further damage.

“It’s worth the money and is great quality for the price,” one shopper says of the $18 vitamin C serum that’s a “game changer” for your skin.

“I am 51 years old. [female]”I’m of Danish descent so I have fair skin and suffer from a lot of sun damage, so I like Elta MD Tinted UV Physical SPF 41,” she says.

“I also love wearing a sun hat, and a dab of cream bronzer helps minimize the effects of mineral sunscreen.”

Cosmetic Convert

Many people upvoted the post, expressing their gratitude for her skincare advice.

Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid has an impressive rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars on the brand’s website.

Thousands of people with different skin types have praised this product in their honest reviews.

“I discovered this product in 2019 when I decided I was not going to spend over $170 on a Vitamin C serum and grow old without it lol,” one person said.

“I found this and it has the exact same ingredients as the more expensive brand I was using and doesn’t smell as bad as the more expensive serums!

“I’m 45 now and it’s the most important part of my skincare routine after moisturizer!!! It’s the best!”

“Nothing works better than vitamin C for glowing skin,” said another shopper.

“This is definitely one of the ingredients that has made the biggest difference to my skin and I always get comments about my skin every time I use it.

“Timeless is absolutely amazing, and the prices are so reasonable too!”

Should I apply Vitamin C to my skin?

Topical Vitamin C has a variety of benefits for the skin, including moisturizing, reducing redness, and reducing pigmentation.

According to Healthline, it also helps boost collagen production and reduce sun damage.

Studies show it is safe for most skin types, but concentrations above 20% can cause irritation.

Experts recommend doing a patch test on a small area of skin and waiting 24 hours to check for any side effects before applying it to your face.

Discontinue use of topical vitamin C if you experience symptoms such as a rash, redness, or hives.
