A 51-year-old woman has revealed the serum she uses to reduce sun damage without having to spend money on expensive medications.
She says the affordable serum is a staple in her morning skincare routine before applying any other products.
She shared her advice on Reddit’s 45 Plus Skincare forum in response to a user’s question asking for tips on removing sun damage from the face.
Super Serum
Women said skin care experts would recommend lasers and tretinoin, which are “wonderful,” but are expensive and the effects may only be temporary.
“Previously I was taking a high-quality vitamin C in the morning,” she writes under the handle Telephonetag2123.
“SkinCeuticals Vitamin C and Iron Acid are the best quality, but they are very expensive.
“Timeless brand Vitamin C with Iron Acid is also good.
“I buy directly from their website to ensure it’s as fresh as possible.
“In the morning, after washing my face with water, I apply Vitamin C, then moisturizer and sunscreen.”
Skinceuticals’ Vitamin C serum retails for an eye-watering $182 on the brand’s website.

She swears by using Glitone or The Ordinary’s azelaic acid every night after washing her face, and wearing sunscreen daily to prevent further damage.
“I am 51 years old. [female]”I’m of Danish descent so I have fair skin and suffer from a lot of sun damage, so I like Elta MD Tinted UV Physical SPF 41,” she says.

Should I apply Vitamin C to my skin?
Topical Vitamin C has a variety of benefits for the skin, including moisturizing, reducing redness, and reducing pigmentation.
According to Healthline, it also helps boost collagen production and reduce sun damage.
Studies show it is safe for most skin types, but concentrations above 20% can cause irritation.
Experts recommend doing a patch test on a small area of skin and waiting 24 hours to check for any side effects before applying it to your face.
Discontinue use of topical vitamin C if you experience symptoms such as a rash, redness, or hives.
