She talks about school lunch programs and the children who rely on school meals.
First Lady Jill Biden spoke at a summer nutrition event this week, highlighting the importance of summer meal programs for children who are going hungry while school is out.
“During the school year, many children rely on school meals, but the summer holidays don’t mean parents get a paycheck, which means families are forced to make difficult choices and go without food,” the First Lady said.
She went on to say that her husband’s administration is “providing parents who receive free or reduced-price lunches with a little extra help with grocery shopping — $120 per child.”
The first lady highlighted the SUN Bucks program, which provides $120 per child and “provides free meals and snacks at schools, camps and other summer feeding sites,” adding that the administration has also launched a Meals To-Go program “so rural families can pick up meals or have them delivered to their homes during the summer.”
