Fruits are considered to be the healthiest foods that should be included in your daily diet. Many people also include them in their weight loss diets because they are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. However, when eating fruits rich in vitamins and minerals, it is important to remember to “control your intake” as excess consumption can be harmful. Here are 5 fruits that you should consume regularly at a minimum.

orange
Oranges are a good source of immune-boosting vitamin C. However, oranges are an acidic fruit and can cause acid reflux. Acid reflux is a digestive disorder in which digestive fluids flow back into the esophagus, causing heartburn and discomfort. According to a study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, acidic fruits such as oranges can cause symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The reflux of intestinal fluids can irritate the lining of the esophagus, causing inflammation. It is important to note that eating oranges occasionally does not cause GERD. People who experience constant intestinal irritation can minimize their orange intake and add less acidic fruits such as plantains and melons to their diet instead.

Lychee
Litchi is a sweet and delicious fruit that is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. However, litchi also contains a toxin called hypoglycine. Eating this fruit on an empty stomach can cause blood sugar levels to drop to dangerous levels. According to a study reported in Investigative Medicine, children who consumed large amounts of litchi on an empty stomach suffered acute hypoglycemia. In some cases, it even led to death. Therefore, people who suffer from hypoglycemia or frequent fluctuations in blood sugar levels should not eat litchi. Remember that litchi is a fruit that should be consumed at a minimum along with a balanced and nutritious diet.

date
Dates are a good source of energy and are also a natural sweetener. They contain high levels of sugar as well as minerals such as potassium and magnesium. One date contains up to 16 grams of sugar. The American Diabetes Association warns that fruits with high sugar content such as dates can spike your blood sugar levels. Therefore, dates may not be an ideal fruit for diabetics. Still, it is safer to consume dates to a minimum to stay healthy and fit.

Copra
Coconut is known for its amazing nutritional and health benefits. However, copra or dried coconut meat is full of calories. Even a small copra fruit contains a lot of calories and unsaturated fats, which lead to weight gain. Moreover, excessive or regular consumption of copra can be dangerous for the heart. According to a research study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the unsaturated fats present in coconut meat, especially dried ones, increase the risk of heart-related diseases. There is no harm in eating copra in small portions or enjoying a few pieces every now and then. However, less calorie foods and regular coconuts are healthier than copra.

Processed Fruit Products
Fruit contains natural sugars. However, the added sugars in processed fruit foods may be unhealthy. Sugar-coated fruit syrups and dried fruits can rapidly increase the amount of sugar your body consumes. In its dietary guidelines, the World Health Organization recommends limiting added sugars to less than 10% of daily calories to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.
