On Thursday, June 28th, Peloton Studios New York (PSNY) hosted several classes as part of their Lil Jon Artist Series.
Uniquely, at 6:15pm, Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts co-led a 10-minute meditation in the studio with Lil Jon, and shortly thereafter, at 7:30pm EST, Peloton hosted a Club Bangers x Lil Jon Bike class taught by Alex Toussaint and featuring the studio’s special guest DJ (singer, rapper), Lil Jon.
When the Artist Series was first announced with Lil Jon, we told you he’d be joining us for two classes at PSNY. Not only has this happened, but they’ve taken it a step further by having Lil Jon lead a meditation and DJ on Alex Toussaint’s ride.
Not only did Lil Jon join Chelsea Jackson-Roberts in meditation, he also led a meditation with her on his own mat in front of the studio. Meditation is nothing new to Lil Jon, having released two meditation albums in the past six months. The music played during the meditation was from Lil Jon’s latest meditation album, “Manifest Abundance.”
Lil Jon begins the meditation by saying, “This is the brightest thing you’ll do today,” so members know exactly how bright they will be after class. Chelsea and Lil Jon take turns leading members through meditation and breathing exercises throughout the 10-minute class.
Immediately after the meditation class, Lil Jon joined Alex Toussaint for a Club Bangerz ride, Alex’s signature class introduced in 2019.
Club Bangers is an imagined ride that lets you walk into a club with Alex, adjusting to the beat as you wait for the doors to open. Once the doors open and you’re inside the club, the beat gets louder and faster. You can hear the DJ and no matter how hard you try, you can’t stay off the dance floor. Throughout the ride, Alex will be dancing and leading classes that are just as fun as a night out on the town.
What made Club Bangerz so special was that it was like what we all imagined in our homes and in Alex’s head came to life right before our eyes. As soon as the class started, a DJ flashed a smile. It was Lil Jon. He took the mic and sang his own songs and other artists’ songs throughout the class.
Peloton member Skye B. (#RatedRnB) broadcast live directly from Peloton Studios New York and described the energy in the room during class:
“The energy in that class was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I’ve been to some very energetic classes before, but this was something else entirely. I think classes like Lil Jon’s are great for anyone who rides at home. Sometimes we ride when we’re not in the mood, so a class with this kind of energy can really get anyone going.”
This isn’t the first time that artists, such as Mariah Carey and Lizzo, have performed for their own Artist Series, but this ride was the most impressive of any of Peloton’s previous featured artists.
Lil Jon moved from the DJ booth to the stage, rapping and dancing to the songs. He was doing exactly what a DJ does, adjusting his intensity to suit the instructor and the audience. The camera offered different views to the members taking the class at home. At times, the camera followed Lil Jon onstage as he walked among the bikes. There were close-ups of him looking straight into the camera, shots from Lil Jon’s angle taken from behind the DJ, and of course a frontal shot onstage.
In what felt like a private concert with Lil Jon and a few friends, Alex kept the class flowing, offering resistance and rhythm advice throughout.
The energy felt by the studio audience was also transmitted to riders training at home, with Lynn O (#MrsLynn) saying, “Peloton brought it! These Club Bangers by Alex T and Lil Jon were amazing, call the firefighters! It was all about the energy and vibe, the class was so fun I almost forgot I was training at home. This was the best I’ve ever been to. I loved it so much.”
The class included music across a variety of genres as well as music sung and produced by Lil Jon. The playlist included artists such as Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, Nelly, Bon Jovi, Dua Lipa, Sexy Red, Nicki Minaj and Lil Uzi Vert. Another surprise in the class was when two other Peloton instructors, Ash Pryor and Camila Raymone, appeared as shot girls while Lil Jon performed “Shots” and treated participants to Peloton H2O.
After class ended, Lil Jon took to the stage with Alex and they sang and danced until the club closed.
Lil Jon’s involvement with Peloton highlights the importance of music in fitness. His ability to transform any environment into an energetic one aligns perfectly with Peloton’s goal of making working out fun and invigorating. Lil Jon is no stranger to collaborations with fitness giants like Peloton, having first burst onto the Zumba world in 2013 with the release of the song “Work” for their nightclub series.
Whether you’re a seasoned rider or new to the Peloton community, the Lil Jon Club Bangers ride will be an experience you’ll remember and want to participate in again.
If you can’t get enough of Lil Jon music, there are four other classes in the Lil Jon series. Note that these classes do not feature Lil Jon.
