LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Pride was in full swing in downtown Lexington on Saturday as hundreds of people gathered at the Central Bank Center for Lexington’s Pride Festival.
“It means a lot to me to be here at the Central Bank Center with Rapp. It’s really amazing,” said festival attendee Kelsey Holland.
What was even more meaningful to Holland was that her parents were there with her, showing how proud they are of her.
“I support her 100 percent every day,” said Kelsey’s father, Joe Holland.
“She was born with this and she has lived her life and we’re not going to stand in the way of that at all. We’re going to support that,” added Buffy Holland, Kelsey’s mother.
While Buffy was extending support to everyone by handing out free hugs, other vendors like Grace United Lexington were also looking to be a safe space.
“Our church believes God’s door is open to everyone, our doors are open, and we feel very strongly that everyone has a right to a safe place and everyone has a right to be themselves,” said Dawn Webb, assistant pastor at Grace United.
Beyond the spiritual resources offered, Pride attendees can also stop by and purchase Pride art pieces from vendors like Van Adkins.
“Some people look at me and say, ‘I love your work. I don’t have any money, but here I am!’ And I give them my work for free because it’s all about doing good, not being greedy,” Adkins said.
From free hugs to free art, many say you can’t put a price on the memories they get from Lexington Pride.
