Indian Retailer – From healthy ice cream to vegan protein: How Pod Nutrition is filling the gap with hydrolyzed plant protein

Pod Nutrition’s journey from conception to launch is rooted in a passion for health and a desire to meet the nutritional needs of consumers. Good Fettle Private Limited, the company behind Pod Nutrition, was originally known for pioneering the healthy ice cream category in India. Co-founder Akhil Gupta said, “Having pioneered the healthy ice cream segment in India and operating for over five years, we have had the fortunate privilege of connecting deeply with consumers and understanding their requirements at multiple levels. This experience gave us valuable insights into consumer health needs and preferences, paving the way for the creation of Pod Nutrition.

The move from healthy ice cream to vegan protein supplements was driven by a deep understanding of the dietary challenges faced by many Indians, particularly protein deficiency and lactose intolerance. “Protein deficiency and lactose intolerance are both huge issues for most Indians, so we wanted to tackle this issue head-on,” explains Gupta. “Our goal was to provide a plant-based protein supplement that not only addressed these dietary challenges but also had great taste and texture.” The extensive research and development that Pod Nutrition has undertaken ensures that their products are affordable and high quality.

Fitness and nutrition made simple

Pod Nutrition’s core mission is to address the confusion around how to get healthy and what to eat, providing holistic, simple solutions to enhance your health journey. “We aim to simplify the process of getting healthy and eating right by providing the cleanest supplements that are often missing from our daily diet.” Gupta said: The brand aims to offer reliable, high-quality nutritional products and become a trusted partner for consumers on their fitness journey.

Pod nutrition has a huge impact on the Indian fitness and nutrition industry. “We believe Pod Nutrition can make a meaningful impact by addressing a major nutritional deficiency and providing an accessible, high-quality, plant-based protein supplement.” Our convenient single-serving packets and range of flavours cater to diverse consumer needs, making it easier for people from all walks of life to include protein in their daily diets.

The Pod Nutrition Difference

One of Pod Nutrition’s key differentiators is its use of hydrolyzed plant protein technology. Gupta explains, “The process of hydrolysis breaks down proteins into smaller chain amino acids, greatly increasing the protein’s bioavailability, meaning your body can absorb and utilize protein more efficiently, resulting in faster muscle repair and rebuilding.” This technological advantage, combined with a focus on taste and texture, sets Pod Nutrition apart from other plant protein powders.

At Pod Nutrition, quality and transparency are paramount. “Our primary ingredients are sourced in the United States, and both our brands and manufacturing facilities are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).” Gupta said: Stringent quality control measures and transparency practices, such as including a QR code on each package that links to lab reports, enable consumers to trust the nutritional information of the product.

While Pod Nutrition’s primary target audience is athletes and fitness enthusiasts, the brand’s products are designed to appeal to a wider audience. “According to ICMR guidelines, more than 73% of the population does not get even half the recommended protein intake.” Pod Nutrition aims to educate the public and redefine the perception of protein by spreading awareness about its importance for everyone.

Innovative Retail Strategies

To maximize its reach, Pod Nutrition balances direct-to-consumer (D2C) and traditional retail channels. “Our primary focus is direct-to-consumer, especially online, so we can educate our customers directly about the benefits of our products,” explains Gupta. The brand has received significant interest from multiple local and international retail chains, and they are making their products available in brick-and-mortar stores for those who prefer to shop in person.

Entering the protein supplement market is not without challenges. One of the biggest obstacles is the prevalence of counterfeit supplements, undermining consumer trust. “Communicating the authenticity and reliability of our brand is an ongoing effort.” The company addresses this issue by emphasizing strict quality control measures and transparent practices.

Another big challenge was overcoming the perception that plant-based proteins don’t taste good. “We have invested heavily in product development and research and development to ensure that our protein powders not only meet your nutritional needs, but also taste great.” Gupta says the focus on taste and texture will help Pod Nutrition stand out in the market and attract a wider consumer base.

Commitment to sustainability

Pod Nutrition is committed to sustainability and ethical practices. “We ensure that our ingredients are sustainably sourced and our packaging is environmentally friendly.” “This commitment extends to honest marketing and providing accurate information about our products, building long-term consumer trust based on integrity and responsibility,” Gupta said.

Expansion and innovation

Looking to the future, Pod Nutrition has ambitious plans for expansion and innovation. “We’ve seen a lot of interest from international markets like the US and the Middle East,” Gupta reveals. The company is also looking to develop new products that align with its mission of providing clean, effective nutrition. By continually innovating and expanding its product lineup, Pod Nutrition aims to stay at the forefront of the nutrition industry.

Pod Nutrition’s journey from a healthy ice cream brand to a leader in the vegan protein supplement market is a testament to the company’s commitment to health, quality and consumer trust. With a clear mission and focus on innovation, Pod Nutrition is poised to make a lasting impact on the fitness and nutrition space in India and internationally. Akhil Gupta concludes: “Through our innovative products and health and wellness initiatives, we aim to transform the fitness and nutrition landscape in India and make it easier for individuals to lead healthier lives.”
