Leaders from CrossFit, Sweetgreen, Thrive Market, Athletic Greens, Momentous, Pendulum, Plunge and dozens of other health and wellness companies will come together at the advocacy group to talk about how Americans are using healthy eating, exercise and other radical behaviors to reverse chronic disease.
The chronic disease crisis is an economic and national security emergency. Nine in 10 American deaths and 95% of health care costs are related to preventable chronic diseases. Nearly 80% of young people are overweight or obese, and 40% of 18-year-olds meet the criteria for a mental illness. 77% of young people are ineligible to enlist in the military based on their health scores.
The coalition collects the stories of Americans who have used exercise, supplements and healthy foods to reverse chronic diseases. We use these stories to educate and advocate for leaders to redirect more of their health care dollars to these disease-changing and life-saving interventions. Stories can be submitted to EndChronicDisease.org.
The key message of Ending Chronic Disease is simple. Americans choice How medical expenses are spent And those choices should include medically encouraged diet and exercise interventions.
“To cure chronic disease, you have to follow the science. Exercise is medicine. Supplements are medicine. Food is medicine. Cold water baths are medicine. Metabolic habits are medicine,” said Carrie Means, co-founder of the group and TrueMed. “These metabolic habits are often the most effective interventions to cure conditions like depression and heart disease, yet healthcare incentives only pay for antidepressants and statins. There is a way for America to thrive, and that way is to incentivize the items that actually cure disease.”
Funded by a bipartisan group of leaders, the End Chronic Disease initiative will:
- Educate lawmakers by sharing stories of American patients who have reversed chronic diseases with non-pharmaceutical interventions that address underlying causes. The organization is currently in dialogue with dozens of lawmakers.
- Bills and executive orders that promote diet, exercise, and supplements are medical interventions. We are focusing on areas like HSA expansion, SNAP reform, and food-as-medicine research.
- Use your voice to advocate for change by supporting specific legislation or regulatory measures.
