GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4) — When it comes to checking in with children and teens’ mental health, it’s essential to create a safe, non-judgemental zone where they feel supported in communicating their feelings and emotions.
If you’re a parent or guardian looking for guidance on asking meaningful questions like, “How’s it going?” Really If you’re using the phrase “Going?” to foster connection, mindfulness and positive communication with your children, a new initiative from Maranda and community partners can help.
“copper Really “Are you going?” It’s not just a question, it’s also an online campaign/platform that provides parents with valuable resources to help families address mental health.

Join Maranda, Dr. Heide Rawlings of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, and Dr. Charletta Dennis, behavioral health medical director for Priority Health, to learn how to start that conversation with your kids.
“We want to make sure that people are educated about what mental health issues are, and I think that actually opens the door to conversations with family members,” Dr. Dennis said. “We want to destigmatize mental health illness. We want people to understand that mental health issues are no different than any other medical issue.”
“You can’t always know what’s going on inside with a child or teen without having that conversation and understanding how they’re feeling on the inside,” Dr Rawlings said.
